I had a request from a customer for a small vessel to be worn around the neck to house some “medicinal” powder. The customer wanted a simple bottle with a screw lid. I thought I’d get fancy and create a bottle in sterling silver based on the Klien Bottle. He gave me an advance of $200 on the design so I enthusiastically created a model and tried to cast it. Needless to say, it didn’t work. I tried to cast it in one piece whereas I should have created two pieces and joined them together. I also didn’t think through how to get the powder out of the bottle. Anyway, at least I now have a nice render even though it did cost me $200 (which I had to return). The moral of the story is – don’t be too clever.
